People with disabilities who need support to learn about, seek or maintain employment can be assisted by school systems, State agencies and local community Providers. This information has been compiled to assist anyone who supports individuals with disabilities.I am looking for information on:
- services for job seekers and workers with disabilities to find work
- supports available for job seekers and workers
- how benefits that job seekers receive might be affected by going to work, or by working more hours
- benefits to employers for hiring individuals with disabilities
- legal obligations and protections under laws related to employment and disability
- training options available to employment support staff including Employment Specialist Certification options
- how to become a community rehabilitation provider
NOVEMBER 2010 UPDATE: The "Employment for ME Summit: Building on Past Success for the Next Decade" event was held in Augusta on November 15, 2010, and involved two half-day sessions.
The morning session of the conference was for the leadership of case management agencies and advocacy organizations. At this session, DHHS Commissioner Brenda Harvey unveiled the new Department of Health & Human Services employment policy. DOL Commissioner Laura Fortman spoke as well.
The afternoon session, titled “Providing a Bridge between Policy & Practice,” was for case managers, community integration workers and supervisors.
